Finally I have seen a Moose up close with my own eye and it was amazing!
If you google or follow anyone who frequents Algonquin Park you will see thousands of moose shots. I mean they are everywhere! I have been cottaging for 28 years and have yet to see one until now! My family has owned our cottage for 50+ years it is actually located within the boundaries of Algonquin Park near Huntsville, Ontario. Moose Country and none of us have ever seen one.
Let me set the scene ... It was a cloudy calm day, it had rained all morning. The sun was beginning to break out and my family decided lets hop on the pontoon boat before it rains again! We had a very rainy summer so this was a habit of ours.
We began our cruise and my dad started talking about how he has never seen a Moose on our lake. He was telling me that friends on the lake see Moose all the time in Turtle Bay. We have looked many times but never spotted one. However we decided to go cruise by and see if we were lucky that day.
We cruised in and boom out of the corner of my left eye I see something very huge standing perfectly still in the water. I did a double take I almost didn't believe it! "A MOOSE!" I shouted and pointed and immediately realized what a mistake that was! The dogs on the boat started barking and the Moose started taking off!
Everyone started laughing as it was such a classic what were you thinking Shannon moment. We were also so excited as none of us had ever seen a moose till now! I started fumbling with my camera and just rapid fire taking pictures hoping to grab one as it charged through the water and into the forest. Until next time...
They are huge animals, so powerful, and so beautiful! If you have any tips for me for spotting these beautiful animals let me know in the comments or share your own moose spotting adventures.
